MAINTAINING CONTACT TO A PHYSICIAN DURING TREATMENT IS IMPORTANT!

Due to the fact that treatment extends over a period of several weeks, regular medical attention by a physician is important. We don’t want to just only see the patient at the beginning and the end of the therapy. On the other hand, daily controls are not essentially necessary. We have therefore decided in favor of personal contact on a once-weekly basis. Radiotherapy will be supplemented each Thursday with a visit by the physician.

The patient describes their current state of health and possible symptoms. The treating physician examines the areas subjected to radiation. There is the opportunity to discuss open questions that have not, for example, been approached during the initial patient consultation. If necessary, medication will be prescribed or laboratory tests arranged. The pain medication must often be adjusted to meet changing needs.

If side effects increase during the course of treatment, control testing will be performed several times weekly, when required on a daily basis. In close cooperation with the referring physician, we search for options to effectively relieve symptoms. If required, we will arrange for inpatient admittance to one of the neighboring hospitals, either the HBH-Clinic Singen or the Clinic Friedrichshafen. The general condition of the patient permitting, radiotherapy can be resumed without interruption.

Patients with tumour diseases in the head-neck region often suffer difficulties swallowing during radiotherapy. A staff member from our Centre, who also makes house calls, specifically cares for this group of patients.
