THE SKIN TUMOUR CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL FREIBURG

In fall 2010, a Skin Tumour Centre certified by the German Cancer Society was established at the University Skin Clinic Freiburg. Numerous disciplines are consolidated in this facility, whose focus is concerned with the detection and treatment of benign and malignant tumour diseases of the skin. The diagnostic range comprises special examination procedures like reflected light microscopy, the histological examination of tissue samples by dermatopathologists, and the complete equipment relevant to state-of-the-art radiology (ultrasound, computer/nuclear spin tomography, positron emission tomography). The most advanced operative procedures are available for therapy in the Skin Clinic: plastic surgery, hand surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, along with various conservative treatment methods. This quite essentially includes radiotherapy. Since the catchment area of the Skin Tumour Centre comprises the entire Southwest Baden-Württemberg region, the Lake Constance Radiation Oncology Centre works as a cooperation partner of the Skin Tumour Centre hand in hand with the specialists in Freiburg, in order to be able to provide the patients with top quality care that is also close to home.
