INTESTINAL CENTRE HEGAU-LAKE CONSTANCE

Cancer of the intestinal tract is the most frequent type of tumour in men and women together. The Intestinal Centre Hegau-Lake Constance wants to contribute to its prevention and early detection. Focus of the work, however, is the treatment of affected patients.

The Intestinal Centre Hegau-Lake Constance is comprised of, among others, the General Surgery Department of the HBH Clinic, the Lake Constance Radiation Oncology Centre, pathologists, radiologists and several practices specialized in gastroenterology or oncology in Singen and vicinity.

In December 2007, the Intestinal Centre Hegau-Lake Constance received certification after comprehensive evaluation by the German Cancer Society. Therapy decisions are principally made jointly at a tumour conference held every Wednesday.

The radiotherapy treatment of tumours of the anal canal (rectal cancer) is a designated focus of our Centre. We participate in regular and targeted further education measures in this field – at national and international symposia. Used for irradiation in the pelvis area, the intensity modulated radiotherapy enables the effective protection of intestine and bladder. The frequency of side effects can be significantly reduced with the implementation of this innovative irradiating technique.
